About the Author 

Rohinton Mistry (born 1952 in Bombay) is an Indian-born Canadian novelist of Parsi heritage whose deeply humane fiction explores themes of poverty, family, discrimination, and social inequity. Emigrating to Canada in the mid-1970s, he initially worked in banking before earning degrees in English and Philosophy from the University of Toronto His debut novel, Such a Long Journey (1991), won the Governor General’s Award and other literary honors. A Fine Balance (1995), his second novel, earned the prestigious Giller Prize and Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and was featured in Oprah’s Book Club. Mistry’s writing is celebrated for its rich narrative, layered characters, and compassionate realism.
