About the Author – 

Joan Barril (Barcelona, 20 January 1952 – 13 December 2014) was a celebrated Catalan journalist and writer. He studied philosophy in Barcelona and went on to build a prolific career in print and broadcast media. He served as director of the weekly El Món (1983–85) and wrote opinion columns for El País, La Vanguardia, and for many years the back‑page column of El Periódico de Catalunya.

On radio, Barril hosted La R‑Pública on COM Ràdio (2001–05) and later El Cafè de la República on Catalunya Ràdio until late 2014. His television presence included L’illa del tresor on Canal 33 and Qwerty on Barcelona Televisió.

As a novelist, he received several literary awards: the Ramon Llull Prize (1998) for Parada obligatòria, the Ramon Muntaner Prize for Tots els ports es diuen Helena (1998), the Sant Jordi Prize for Les terres promeses (2010), and the 23 d’Abril Prize for Certes mentides (2002)
