Mark Owen (pseudonym for Matt Bissonnette)

• No Easy Day was published under the name Mark Owen, but the author’s real name is Matt Bissonnette, a former U.S. Navy SEAL and member of the elite SEAL Team Six (DEVGRU).

• Bissonnette served in numerous combat missions and was one of the operators involved in Operation Neptune Spear, the mission that led to Osama bin Laden’s death in Pakistan in 2011.

• In the book, he draws on his military experience, his training, and his participation in high-risk operations to give readers a detailed look at life inside one of the world’s most secretive special forces units.

• The decision to publish without official Department of Defense (DoD) pre-clearance led to controversy; the Pentagon later claimed the memoir contained classified information, and Bissonnette was ordered to forfeit his royalties to the U.S. government.
