Book Summary:
Sonic the Hedgehog #50, published by Archie Comics in September 1997, is a landmark issue titled “The Big Goodbye.” This special collector's edition marks a significant turning point in the Sonic comic series, featuring a climactic showdown between Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, and offering resolutions to long-standing story arcs.
The narrative unfolds with Julian, the son of Ivo (Dr. Robotnik), fleeing from Overlander troops. Dulcy, a dragon who cannot lie, confirms Sonic's honesty, convincing Geoffrey St. John that someone is attempting to sow division among the Freedom Fighters. Knuckles joins the effort to liberate Knothole Village, which is under threat of roboticization. Meanwhile, Dr. Robotnik plans to use the Ultimate Annihilator to destroy Knothole. In a tense confrontation, Sonic faces Robotnik in a battle where speed is neutralized. Despite the odds, Sonic's determination leads to a fierce fight, culminating in the apparent destruction of Knothole. However, it's revealed that Knothole survived, and Dr. Quack, under duress, had been coerced into aiding Robotnik. The issue concludes with a heartfelt reunion between Sonic and Sally Acorn, who awakens from a coma, leading to a passionate kiss and the restoration of hope for the Freedom Fighters.
