About the Author —

Eddie Kantar (1932–2022) was a world-class American bridge player and one of the most beloved bridge authors and teachers. He won two Bermuda Bowl world championships (1977, 1979), amassed 15 North American titles, and was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 1996 Kantar began playing at age 11 and was teaching bridge by 17; his early passion led to over 35 books and regular columns for The Bridge World, ACBL Bulletin, and Bridge Today. His writing is known for combining technical depth with a warm, humorous style—making complex declarer and defence techniques accessible and entertaining. Beyond writing, he taught internationally, lectured on bridge cruises, and uniquely competed in both a World Bridge Championship and a World Table Tennis Championship—a rare dual feat
