About the Author:

Leo Bersani (1931–2022) was a highly influential American literary theorist, cultural critic, and professor emeritus of French at the University of California, Berkeley. He was widely known for his pioneering work in literary theory, psychoanalysis, and queer theory.

Bersani’s scholarship covered a wide range of topics, from 17th-century French literature to modernist poetry, art, and sexuality. He gained prominence for his provocative and groundbreaking essays, including the seminal “Is the Rectum a Grave?” (1987), which challenged dominant narratives in both psychoanalytic and queer theory.
